Rescue of Critically Injured Golden Jackal – A Collaborative Effort
POSTED ON: 26 December 2024
On 26th December 2024, WINGS – Wildlife Information and Nature Guide Society – played a crucial role in the rescue of a critically injured Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) in collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of West Bengal. The rescue effort was led by our dedicated member, Mr. Manish Kumar Chattopadhyay, whose quick thinking and compassion ensured the animal received immediate care. The jackal, found in a severely injured state, required urgent attention. With no time to lose, Mr. Chattopadhyay, along with the forest team, used a personal blanket to safely contain and comfort the distressed animal. This thoughtful act minimized further trauma during the rescue process. Once stabilized, the jackal was handed over to the forest department officials and promptly transported to Burdwan for necessary medical treatment.
This incident reflects WINGS’ unwavering commitment to wildlife protection. While golden jackals are relatively widespread, incidents such as these remind us of the increasing threats faced by even the most resilient wild species due to habitat disturbance, human conflict, and road accidents. Every successful rescue is not only a life saved but also a step forward in building awareness and fostering coexistence between humans and wildlife. We sincerely thank the Forest Department for their continued cooperation, and we applaud the bravery and presence of mind shown by Mr. Manish Kumar Chattopadhyay. WINGS remains dedicated to its mission of wildlife conservation, and this rescue is yet another testament to the impact of timely, coordinated action and deep-rooted compassion for all living beings.
